Thanks for the report. I'm able to redo this. Adding denoise node solves the issue.
I'm not sure whether this is expected so forwarding this report to developers

Denoising an AOV like that is not a good idea. This pass should be clean or properly calculated. As you can see, the dirty noise pattern has no correlation to the scene structure or the existing volume. This is clearly a badly calculated AOV.

The proper way of supporting such setup is something close to DeepEXR. Having a single pass with object or material index is going to be limited in one setups or another. The closest we have to it is the Cryptomatte passes.

The technical reason why it is happening is because the index passes are only written to the render result for the first sample. This is because you don't want to apply filter on pixels which store index. When there is volume on the way from camera to the object the ray might scatter, leading to the non-clean results as in the attached example.
