Thanks for the report. Please check again with factory settings: {nav File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings}
Checked with loading factory settings. Issue still persists.
Thanks for the update. This happens in solid mode and in default cube file?
Are you able to confirm this problem right after opening the default file?
Is there any rise in memory usage? Might be related: #100505 (Memory leak with no actions at all.)
Yes. This happens in solid mode and in default cube file. It is present in solid and edit modes. I am using Arch linux with latest gnome desktop with wayland backend. I tried blender 2.79 but the issue is there as well. Then I tested this issue on an X.org by booting from usb on this same laptop. There was no issue on X. So I think this might be a gnome, nvidia or wayland problem.
I am not noticing any memory leaks. When I am on the default cube the ram usage is 248.4 MB. It doesn't change unexpectedly.

Can you clarify when this delay happens? Does it happen when you click on the File menu for instance? It takes a number of seconds before the menu is opened?
Delay in showing or highlighting menu itemsto Delay in showing or highlighting menu items on WaylandMenu items don't highlight when I move the cursor through menu items.
When I move through the main menu it has issues highlighting items. I moved the cursor from left to right on the main menu. File got highlight. When the cursor is on Edit the highlight is on File, cursor on Render highlight on Edit. The click also doesn't work without highlight.
When I click on the File menu it doesn't pop up until I move the cursor downwards to the place where it is supposed to pop up. It is the same for every main menu items.
Then I moved the cursor to Quit on the file menu and to Defaults menu group right above that. Highlight is still on Quit but the cursor is on Defaults. Click also doesn't work on top of menu items which doesn't have a highlight. When I click it is like I clicked outside and the menu popup disappear.
So it seems like the cursor is offset by some amount as opposed to a delay. Are you running Blender with XWayland or with native Wyland support?
I seem to remember a related fix some time ago. Can you try the latest 3.4 daily build? https://builder.blender.org/
I checked with xeyes and i saw blender is running on xwayland. I tested it on 3.4 daily build too, but no change.
I am not sure if we take bug reports for XWayland specifically. Are you able to test Blender with native Wyaland support? That is, with
WITH_GHOST_WAYLAND
.Can't find a build WITH_GHOST_WAYLAND anywhere. I will try to build it myself.
The latest version of Blender 3.4 now supports Wayland, can you retest on that? https://builder.blender.org/
Issue still exists on latest blender 3.4
Just to double check, does the
Blender Icon > About Blender
screen show Wayland as the used windowing environment?No. It show x11
Okay, so it is not using Wayland for some reason. If you are using Gnome, you need to install
libdecor
, or is it already installed?Does Blender print anything relevant to Wayland when you open it from the terminal?
It was the issue of missing libdecor. I saw the log
Then I installed
libdecor
and it doesn't start at all.I mean the UI is not showing up. I had to kill the process when started from terminal.
Can you attach the terminal output of
WAYLAND_DEBUG=1 blender

Any idea about the above error @ideasman42?
Changed status from 'Needs User Info' to: 'Needs Triage'
This is likely a graphics card driver issue and out of our control, especially since Blender 2.7x also has this problem.
NVidia drivers under wayland is not well supported yet, closing as this will hopefully be fixed by a driver update.
