There is a wrong Ukrainian language name written in Ukrainian in the following files:

https://github.com/blender/blender-translations/blob/master/languages
It is now:

18:Ukrainian (Український):uk_UA

It should be:

18:Ukrainian (Українська):uk_UA

In many files here -- https://github.com/blender/blender-translations/tree/master/po
It is now:

msgid "Ukrainian (Український)"

It should be:

msgid "Ukrainian (Українська)"

https://github.com/blender/blender/blob/master/release/scripts/modules/bl_i18n_utils/settings.py
It is now:

    (18, "Ukrainian (Український)", "uk_UA"),

It should be:

    (18, "Ukrainian (Українська)", "uk_UA"),

Relatedly, here is a list of issues I’ve detected in the translation files.

For each section, the header is the expected national language name. Then the locale code is the .po file where the issue occurs, and the value is the erroneous name (when different from the expected name). These names are the ones that appear between parentheses in the preferences and should not be edited in any language because they’re meant for speakers of the target language.

Notes:

  • I don’t speak Ukrainian, but that’s the name that pops up in Wikipedia interlanguage links, so I have no doubt it’s correct.

  • From the same source , other languages might need to be updated, but I don’t speak any of them so not sure:

    • Abkhaz -> Abkhazian: Аԥсуа бызшәа -> Аԥсуа
    • Czech: Český -> Čeština
    • Dutch: Nederlandse taal -> Nederlands
    • Estonian: Eestlane -> Eesti
    • Hindi: मानक हिन्दी -> हिन्दी
    • Kazakh: қазақша -> Қазақша (capital letter)
    • Kyrgyz: Кыргыз тили -> Кыргызча
    • Romanian: Român -> Română
    • Thai: ภาษาไทย -> ไทย
    • Ukrainian: Український -> Українська
    • Vietnamese: tiếng Việt -> Tiếng Việt (capital letter)
  • “Українська” in uk is obviously a false positive since it’s the only one that is correct.

  • For “Automatic”, the string is duplicated, like “Automaticky (Automaticky)”, whereas the instance in parens should be in English. The Thai language chose to remove it outright, so it simply looks like “อัตโนมัติ” (I had actually made the mistake in French, fixed it).

  • “Default” is irrelevant since Danish is no longer updated.

  • I’m not entirely sure, but I believe that Arabic and Persian are not written properly in Arabic, but they’re correct in Persian even though errors are reported. Looks like Hebrew is not correct in Arabic either.

@mont29 Do you think it’s ok to fix these issues in each branch, or should we wait for translators to fix their own language’s issues?

Ah, English and its same forms for nouns, adjectives and so on! Thanks, will fix that.

@pioverfour although not ideal, I would rather leave each language fix it themselves.

What we can do though is tag current incorrect ones as fuzzy (with comment explaining why), that way it's still there, but not actually used in Blender UI?
