Blender crashes when adding Particle system (Hair/Interpolated Children) #101902

Operating system: Mac OS Monterey 12.6 / MacBook Pro 16 (2019)
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Broken: Blender 3.3.0
Worked: Blender 2.83.9

Short description of the error:
After adding in Particle system, Blender 3.3.0 freezes, and after 1-2 min computer rebuts itself.

For compressing, Blender 2.83.9 works fine even with a high number of Interpolated Children.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error:

  • Open a new project
  • Select default cube
  • Select Particle system
  • Add a new Particle system
  • Change Particle system to Hair
  • Add Interpolated children
  • Increase Display amount to "16"

Thanks for the report. I guess this is same issue as #97542 (Regression: Hair Particles Freeze Entire MacOS!)
Does this happen with other child particle type? Are you able to trigger the crash after incrementing the hair particles and not the children?
Please also share the crash logs: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/crash.html#macos

Yes, it's my case.

Yes, and yes. As I understand, the problem occurs after the number of particles on the screen exceeds >16000.

Everything works fine in Cycles, though. But as soon as I switch to the "Solid" view with the same parameters, everything freezes:

Sometimes while freezing I got these strange artifacts:
