System Information
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20221224
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.101.0
Qt Version: 5.15.7
Kernel Version: 6.1.0-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 24 × AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor
Memory: 62.7 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080/PCIe/SSE2
Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.
Product Name: MS-7A38
System Version: 8.0

Blender Version
3.4.0

Short description of error
On my opensuse linux, blender fails to locate and load all default font.
Having to make the user find and load the font is awful user experience.
Also when I go into my systen fonts folder and select all to add then, Blender still fails to add all selected fonts.
Even worse when I closed blender down and reopen it all my added fonts are gone and I need to do the process all over again?
This is defenitely a critical bug.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Open Video Editor
From Strips tab in the sequence, under Style, click on "open".
Go to fonts folder, select all and click on "Open Font". (Should be called Add Font imho).
Click on the drop down font select and see not all the fonts were added.

Not individually selected and add a few fonts.
Close Blender down.
Open Blender and view the added fonts and see they are all gone.

The dropdown list shown, never contains all the fonts available to you on your system. It is a list showing only the fonts currently loaded in the current project. In your case if you have two text strips, each with a different font that list will contain 2 or 3 fonts.

When you select "open" to load a font in your video, that is the process to change the font of the one effect strip you have currently selected. So it doesn't allow you to select multiple because only one font can be used by that one strip.

When you select "open", note that the "System" list on the left most likely includes a shortcut to your fonts folder.

Not a bug AFAICS.

Close Blender down.
Open Blender and view the added fonts and see they are all gone.

You'll need to save the file to store all loaded fonts in your blender project. Also mark each of them as fake user.

The complaint is almost identical to one a year earlier by the same person: https://developer.blender.org/T91919

This appears to be mostly a feature request that there be a drop-down list of all the system fonts available to the user to select from, instead of having to select each via File Browser.

It would be nice to be able to see all the fonts on my system and then easily change the font for a text effect.
Why should a user have to go and dig up where a font is located? Other software do not work like this, but blender has these oddities and does it the "blender" way.
Do develper ever use other software and see how things work before implementing something unintutive?
