%%%1.- add beziercircle.
2.- add path.
3.- select the path and set the beziercircle to be the bevel object in the "geometry" tab

  • now you must see some kind of tube!
4.- select the path switch to edit mode and delete all vertex between start and endpoint.

  • now the tube/surface disappears!?

    • still in path edit mode: just toggle (disable/enable) the endpoint option for the u dir one time ("active spline" tab).
  • now the tube/surface appears again no matter the u dir endpoint option

Blender r40383

step 1.-3. prepared in Blend file attached%%%

%%%i tried the same in 2.49b: ->same beaviour.
hmm strange, maybe its no real bug and i just misunderstood something..

cheers,
dave

%%%This is intentional, if there are less points then the 'order' variable, then it cant make a valid curve.

We could automatically reduce the order when removing points but think that'd be bad since you may want to extrude/subdiv them back again.

Then the best option would be to leave the curve data as is but calculate with a lower order if the number if points is lower then the order. then its not using the oder given but at least its not vanishing.%%%

%%%Hey Campbell,

Thx a lot for your fast reply and explanation. Yep, now i understand the logic behind.
sorry for the false alert.

btw some different stuff:
dont want to open another thread for no real bug, but i dont know where to ask this:

add some path, duplicate it, switch on vertex snapping in3d view, try to snap one curve vertex to some other curve vertex: -> no snapping:(
snapping in 3d view seems not working yet with curves. only mesh vertex seems to be supported atm.

btw is it planed to make curve modifiers like array "applyable" in futrure versions? atm it prompts:" cannont apply contructive modifiers on curves"
sorry for posting this kind of feature requests here..

cheers,

dave%%%

%%%Yes, limiting order when calculating curve can be useful. And i think snapping isn't really implemented, not really a bug.
And unfortunately, constructive modifiers aren't so easy to be applied. It can work in some cases like array/mirror applied on base curve. But even this case would require tweaks to modifiers stuff. Not sure it'll be implemented in nearest future.%%%

%%%Pardon, forgot about one thing -- when you're extruding curve order gets increased too. Also, order is getting clamping already for nurbs surfaces, so i've added clamp to order for nurb curves. Should work fine now.
Added vertex snapping here: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Tools#Curves
Thanks for the report, closing.%%%
