%%%Seen on trunk revision 46132 (windows 7):

I made 2 tests:

Test 1 (Single Cube)

  • open default scene
  • select the default cube
  • File -> export -> COLLADA (export only selected)
  • remove default cube
  • File -> Import -> COLLADA

Now the imported cube is selected but renders in total black

  • go to edit mode

Now the cube renders in grey (as expected)

  • go to object mode

All is well now

Test 2 (three Cubes)

  • open default scene
  • select the default cube
  • create 2 copies using SHIFT+d
  • Select all 3 cubes
  • File -> export -> COLLADA (export only selected)
  • remove the 3 cubes
  • File -> Import -> COLLADA

Now all 3 cubes can be seen, but only the previously active cube is
now selected and rendered black. The other 2 cubes are unselected
and render correctly in default grey.

  • Select any of the other 2 objects
  • go to edit mode

The black cube remains black

  • go to object mode
  • select the black cube
  • go to edit mode

Now the cuibe changes to default grey and all is well again.

%%%> Now the cube renders in grey (as expected)

It's not actually rendering black, but showing most faces in 3d viewport black!

with such a cube selected, bpy.context.object.data.update() from py console fixes the problem

looks like there's a call missing to update the data / view...%%%
