Loop cutting a self intersecting face loop #31939

%%%When you perform a Loop Cut and Slide (Ctrl-R) on an edge ring of a self intersecting face loop, the intersected face is not cut. See attached file for better explanation.

Perhaps it's more of a design decision, and not a bug?

%%%Oki, so the feature of filling that type of subdivide (use_gridfill of BM_mesh_esubdivide) is set to False for loopcut, because edge slide won't work in this case.

So it is working as expected, question now is whether we prefer to have it filling the face in this case (and hence no more edge slide), or prefer to keep edge slide and have an interrupted loop... But unless making edge slide work with intersecting loops (which wouldn't be easy, imho), you can't have both for now!

Personally, I would rather be to make proper cuts, even if slide then fails - anyway, even in the current situation, slide will fail if you have more than one cut, so…%%%
