Snapping vertex to mesh not working when movement is constrained to a single axis #38438

System Information
Win7, 6950; Friend can reproduce on Linux (Kubuntu, I think, not sure of video card)

Blender Version
2.69.0 r60995

Short description of error
Trying to snap a vertex to a face works until I try to constrain movement to the Y-axis, at which point it no longer snaps at all. Feature works with other meshes (tried just making two cubes and doing it to confirm), but seems to not work in this specific instance. As mentioned before, friend created a very similar but not identical scene to mine and could replicate the issue from a brand new file on a different operating system. Friend downloaded from the master branch and compiled last night, to make sure it hasn't been fixed yet, and the problem still existed.

Stack Exchange thread: http://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/6682/snap-to-mesh-issues-with-z-and-x-axis-constraints#6682
This thread has some screenshots that may be helpful if my wording is unclear.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Blend file: http://www.pasteall.org/blend/26621

  1. Grab (G) selected vertex.
  2. Constrain movement to the Y-axis (Y).
  3. Drag mouse to the left. Vertex does not snap to the face it would collide with (or any face, for that matter). Note that I've tried doing this both while holding down Ctrl and not holding it down (to make sure I wasn't mixing up how it toggles the snap mode).

Expected behavior
Said vertex snaps to one of the only two faces it can intersect when moving only along the Y-axis.

This is true and it's a known issue in TODO list: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Tools#Transform

Linked this report to there/ Thanks for the report, but snapping tools are indeed to have more love and attention, but currently we don't have developer working in that area..
