System Information
Mac OSX 10.9.4
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480
NVIDIA Quadro 4000

Blender Version
Broken: 2.71 any build after #ac6b5f2
Worked: Official 2.71 #9337574 to build #ac6b5f2

Short description of error
The Spacepilot Pro worked brilliantly with any Blender build up to #ac6b5f2 but now does not work with any recent builds.
The input / NDOF settings are identical.
You can view a video of the problem here: https://vimeo.com/102713287 password: blender

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I've included two blend files from a working and broken build. You probably don't have a space pilot pro but my user prefs might be visible.works.blend

Hi Konrad, I worked on improvements for NDOF for 2.71 and have tested Win/Mac/Linux (recent git), but dont use Mac regularly.

I can test a recent OSX build soon, its possible the build has this disabled (or somehow the library is misconfigured)

Are you using builds from our buildbot? if not could you link to the build you're using, so I can be sure Im testing the same thing.

Just to add my experiences on Linux.

I just upgraded to blender 2.71 from 2.69 on Debian Linux (package in 'testing' - git hash is unknown), and I can attest to a broken space navigator as well.

In my case tipping the ndof left and right does nothing now, and overall it just seems to work weird (and slow). Basically it's horked, and without left and right roll capability it's more annoying than useful. I'm not sure what improvements you are referring to, but It was working fantastic in 2.69, so you might want to try to put it back the way it was until you work out the kinks. There was one weird thing in a version before 2.69 that had to do with spastic behavior in perspective mode, but that got fixed and it's been great until now.

Please fix this, as once you get used to using the space nav to get around in the drawing, not having it work anymore is really difficult to deal with.

Thanks.

PS I know you are probably doing this in your spare time, and I really do appreciate everything all of you have done. Sorry for bitching. I will add that the interface mods done in 2.71 are cool - nice job!

@ChristopherBarry - Best make a new report, this seems entirely unrelated to the issue with OSX.

I have a space-mouse and it works as I expect, so if you have some bug you need to describe in detail the issue, otherwise its near-impossible for me to investigate.

This may be of interest to you.

Some behavior is personal preference, check to see the issues you raise cant be configured to be to your liking.

Note, this isnt a spare-time thing, since Blender is my day job, but was own choice to get involved with NDOF development since I find it interesting :)

Thanks for getting back Campbell.

Yes,after poking around in preferences, I was able to get back (almost) to my previous behavior.

One feature that caused some inital agina was having to use a keyboard key to rotate out of an exact ortho view. I can see the logic here, and it will just need some getting used to.

Another thing that while I found it initially disconcerting in the old way, I came to really enjoy and rely upon, was how the position of the mouse pointer would behave as a dynamic rotation point. Is there anyway to get that functionality again?

I can create an enhancement request for this and some other ideas I have to make NDOF a bit more useful if that would be better.

Thanks for all your work.

Confirmed buildbot builds dont work with OSX but 2.71 release works fine.

This is almost certainly a build configuration issue since the code here didn't change,
assigning to Sergey since he setup the build.

I've made some changes to the buildbot environment. Please download latest build from builder.blender.org and see if the 3d device works for you now.

Hi Sergey,
I can confirm that the Spacepilot Pro 3D mouse works absolutely perfectly with the latest build (2014-08-15 04:22) hash: 36cbdb8
Hooray!!! And a big спасибо - Not forgetting Campbell of course :0)
All the best and thank you for all your wonderful efforts on Blender,

Campbell,

Actually, after using the new 3dConnexion code for a while I must say it kicks ass! It's smoother and more responsive. And it works in other places in blender too, which is excellent. Great Job! and thank you for all your awesome effort on blender.

Cheers,
