System Information
Windows 10 Tech Preview 64 bit

Blender Version
Broken:
2.72b official (9e963ae) on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 10 Tech Preview 64 bit,
2.72.1 dev (beaed66) on Linux 64-bit, nvidia graphics,
2.72.2 dev (0627bc2) on Windows 10 Tech Preview 64 bit, AMD graphics

Worked: (optional)
2.68 official on Windows 7 64-bit

Short description of error
Blender crashes as soon as a certain object is selected in the outliner. This seems to be a scene and file -specific bug. I submitted the file to different users on IRC using different operating system and they were able to reproduce the bug on their own machines. The scene is attached to this bug report in order to reproduce the bug: 20141108-chibi-CRASHER.blend
A user wasn't able to reproduce this on Blender 2.68 (under Windows 7 64 bit) pointing to a regression occurred later on during development.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open the affected scene in Blender: 20141108-chibi-CRASHER.blend
Without touching anything else, select the "Chibi.Backup" object in the outliner.
Blender crashes immediately. The bug occurs with 100% reproducibility.

Additional notes
After performing additional tweaks on the the same file, saved at a different time, the bug isn't reproducible anymore: 20141108-chibi.blend
