GPU Rendering issue on Nvidia Tesla M2070 #42654

System Information
Operating system and graphics card
RHEL 6.4
NVIDIA TESLA M2070 - Nvidia 340.58 drivers (October 14)

Blender Version
Broken: 2.69-2.72b
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Render starts, and calculates BVH mesh, but fails after that with the error: CUDA error: Invalid value in cuTexRefSetAddress(NULL, texref, cuda_device_ptr(mem.device_pointer), size)

We have several Cuda experts in my office (we work closely with Nvidia on different Supercomputing projects) and they think it is to do with blender not capturing something within the scene correctly.

It, so far, only occurs on this type of GPU, but on three of the exact same machines, with the same GPGPU's and the same Driver versions.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps

I can so far (because i don't have any other "complex" scenes) replicate this on one scene, that was built by blender 2.72 on a GTX660, using Windows, this scene is uploaded to pastel: http://www.pasteall.org/blend/32955

The reported memory in Blender is 1516.49M, but both GPGPU's attached to this machine have 6GB Memory each. I've even run this in batch with the same error.

Basically once into blender with the scene loaded as it is, making sure that it is using the GPU's to render, hitting fn F12 will produce this error.

@Jcullum Could you please upload the file on a more permanent location (dropbox, gdrive, etc.)? Files on pasteall only have about three weeks of lifetime, not enough for a bug tracker. ;)

Also, not quite sure any dev has this kind of hardware to try to reproduce issue… :/

Sergey, assigning to you anyway.

This is a limitation of textures storage in the card. We use textures for the storage on everything pre-titan because of the performance issues. Seems you already building blender yourself (don't think official builds supports RHEL6.4), so you might want to test this patch http://www.pasteall.org/55639/diff

I'll move this report to a ToDo here http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.6/Source/Render/Cycles/ToDo#Performance since there's no clear solution to have best performance with smaller scenes and make all the ram available without performance loss.. Thanks for the report anyway.
