Short description of error
Some system and other folders that the normal os is not allowed to go into do not contain the icon to go up a directory
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Changed status to: 'Open'

This is only reproducible with some folders. seems like folders with no files that are in the filters

I’m pretty suer we already had this reported for windows not so long ago… but I cannot find again the report.
Cannot reproduce under linux for sure. More precise description of how to reproduce error might help? Does a complete empty folder have that effect too?
Added subscriber: @JulianEisel
On Linux it happens on folders we cannot access to as well. E.g. try to open /root/ without being root. Console prints "/root/ non-existent directory".
It looks like the ".." entry is added by the OS (I'd guess through
readdir()
) so if we wanted to add a ".." entry in there, we had to hack it somehow in. A different solution would be disallowing changing into such directories. All that would be needed here is returning poll = 0 for the execute operator and a nice little error message.Ha ok, can confirm, and think I know what to do here. Will fix.
@Blendify does the issue still occur?
No just test with todays build
my "nethood" and other system folder do not contain the icon
Empty folders do not contain go back arrowto Some System Folders do not contain go back arrowI think the best option for this is to prevent users from going into these folders. I found that other programs such as Google chrome have the same problem. Google Chrome can be used to explore a computers directories and has the same result when going into these system folders. As for the error message I request that it doest produce a small window such as other areas in blender. I think that the error message should extend down from the header then extend back up after users have time to see and read the message so about 5 seconds.
This (getting more information about folders) isn't supported yet and can be considered as a todo IMHO
