https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/physics/fluid/type/domain/cache.html#cache This mentions Domain to be the type where you've set Flow. Can you add how you were trying to bake it ?

I don't understand this sentence. To me it reads like you mean I should have set the small circle to Domain, but that makes no sense. (English isn't my native language.)

Can you add how you were trying to bake it ?

I just where clicking the "Bake Data" button under Settings.

I don't see bake data when red box is "Flow". It comes up only when it is "Domain". image.png
But it crashes two seconds after I click bake data. The folder it makes named "cache_fluid" has two folders "config" and "data". Both are empty.
I am not an expert in this process, so I might be wrong.

The circle defines the inflow. The cube around everything is the domain. The domain will become the actual fluid and has the bake button. What exactly is your question?

From these steps I can redo an error,

  • Select the domain Scotch.Domain
  • In the panel Fluid -> Settings press Free Data
  • Press Bake Data button which replaced Free Data.
  • Two files are left open (using the process monitor in Linux).

While that's a bug which should be fixed, I'm surprised the limitation is hit so quickly, enough to cause a crash (I would have to run this over 500 times to hit the limit).

Can you confirm that you're doing the same steps listed above?

Yes, basically. But I also changed settings back and forth, trying to get fluid sim to work (I can't get it to show anything -> pretty sure that is a(nother) bug). But yes, I baked, freed, baked again, freed, baked, paused, continued, etc. Also tried to bake the mesh and particles at some point.
