Blender don't render on Radeon RX480 & AMD FX 8-Core CPU #80092

System Information
Operating system: WIn 10 2004 - AMD FX 8-Core, 16GB RAM
Graphics card: Radeon RX480 Driver 20.8.2

Broken: 2.83.5 and earlier
Worked: unknown - new user

Short description of error
Cycles - Render Image - initialize but then nothing happend. System isn't freezed. Render in bottom status bar 0%. -

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
installed 2.83.5. Loading free example of title screen 2.83 to test blender. Evee works. But if i switch to Cycles and try to render the image only render initialize the render but is still at zero percent and do nothing..blender.PNG

We need more infos!
Do other versions of Blender work? Maybe Blender 2.90 or 2.91?
Did you try a different project?
Did you reboot your system?

Can you please add the system-info file.

Can you render the default scene ?
Open blender, file > defaults > load factory settings, confirm.
Set render engine and renderer as GPU. Also set Preferences > system > cycles render devices.
Then render > render image.

hi.. blender rendered in CPU mode but with OpenCL enabled than the render hangs.. factory settings and re-set the render device doesn't changed anything.. sorry.. new graphic driver 20.8.3 is installed but don't fix the problem with OpenCL too

It looks like a bug in an OpenCL Shader with AMD graphic.. buffer overflow in a render cycle? Some big blocks are rendered then is hangs.. can‘t finished the 1st render cycle with OpenCL.. I don‘t know.

it seems a bug in the demo file of the splash screen 2.83. I load 2.90 and the demo file of the splash screen 2.9 and this will render in GPU mode..

But.. the image is fully renderd but the render hangs at 93% and blender stopt working.. also something is here also not correct with the renderer blender2.9.hangsat93percent.jpg

OpenCL rendering support was removed in Blender 3.0.
The combination of the limited Cycles kernel implementation, driver bugs, and stalled OpenCL standard
has made maintenance too difficult. Thanks for your report, but it's unlikely that there will be further fixes for OpenCL.

For AMD GPUs, there is a new backend based on the HIP platform.
In Blender 3.0, this is supported on Windows with RDNA and RDNA2 generation discrete graphics cards.
It includes Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000 series GPUs. Driver version Radeon Pro 21.Q4 or newer is required.
