EEVEE Viewport crash #85185

System Information
Operating system: macOS 10.13.6 (17G14042)
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB

Blender Version
Broken: 2.83.10, branch: master, commit date: 2020-12-07 14:09, hash: b439a15544
Worked: (2.81)

Blender 2.83.10 consistently crashes in EEVEE Material Preview mode on opening a file created in 2.81 (macOS). In Rendered mode, Blender is stuck on "Initializing" and never renders the scene in the Viewport.

Testing the same file on Ubuntu Blender 2.81 the Viewport renders correctly in either mode (EEVEE/Cycles) as it did on the Mac where it was created (I no longer have 2.81 installed on that machine).

I realize the Mac is pretty old. Is it just not supported anymore?

Supplemental files:

Archivio.zip

Thank you.

The AMD Radeon HD 5750 is from the [AMD Radeon HD 5000 series ]] and has the old TeraScale 2 micro-architecture. The https:*www.blender.org/download/requirements/ for Blender 2.8x and 2.9x state that [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Features_Overview | GCN first generation or later is required for running Blender.

Supported Graphics Cards

Keep in mind that although the support ended with the 2.80 release, new features that made use of the minimum requirement might have been added later. This means that your hardware might still run Blender 2.80, 2.81, etc. but new features are not tested on unsupported hardware and might stop working at some point.

Unfortunately, this means that your GPU is below the minimum requirements and we don't provide support for it. Graphics glitches and even crashes due to unpatched bugs in the graphics driver can occur on unsupported hardware. You may have to use a previous release of Blender with lower requirements.
