System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 Intel 4.5.0 - Build 25.20.100.6444

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.93.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-02-02 23:17, hash: 2ce1400297
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
I have tried to switch the navigation between "turntable" and "trackball" modes, using the Edit > Preferences menu, and then selecting the Navigation tab in the Preferences dialog. But this setting does not have any effect on Blender's behavior. It always remains in the trackball mode only.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open a new file.
  2. Open the Preferences dialog (Use the Edit >Preferences menu).
  3. Switch to Navigation tab.
  4. Look in the Orbit method section. Select the Turntable option.
  5. Click on the Save preferences* button.
  6. In the 3D Viewport, press MMB and drag the mouse around.
  7. Watch how the default cube and grid move.

Regardless of the setting, we get only trackball type of movement; and never the turntable.

I cannot reproduce this. The turntable option keeps the "up" direction the same during orbiting, whereas the trackball option orbits freely around. See the manual.
