System Information
Operating system: windows 10 - core i7
Graphics card: Nvidia gtx 1080 8gb

Blender Version
latest version jun-04 ,,, 2.93.1

Short description of error
( from view> render viewport image ) , doesn't show object or material properly , it only work if I'm not in render view shading , other than that i have to to screenshot & crop it , which take too long if i want to render 20 image , tried multiple solution & nothing fixed it , btw this issue was also in blender 2.9 , ooh and one more thing - it work in eevee no issue , the only problem is with cycles , this feature used to work-in in blender 2.8 versions

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
1 - add a shape
2- give it glass or any material
3- add a light or hdri
4- switch to cycles
5- select the render view shading
6- go to - view > render viewport image
7- (( wont capture the object and material properly ))

This looks like #71706 (Cycles Viewport Render Image shows a gray picture).

In which 2.8 version was this working?

Based on “Viewport rendering only works for the Workbench and Eevee render engines. It’s not supported for Cycles.”
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/editors/3dview/viewport_render.html

That operator should be greyed out during Cycles rendering via poll or there should be prompt of unsupported operation.
