Blender hangs when clicking on "Materials Properties" tab #90696

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 620 on Dell G3

Blender Version
Broken: 2.93.2, also blender-2.93.3-candidate+v293.ee486aa5ce08 and blender-3.0.0-alpha+master.cb7b4064d6c7
Worked: 2.92.0 and prior releases

Short description of error
Blender hangs when clicking on "Materials Properties" tab.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Start Blender 2.93.2
  2. Default cube appears. Everything is working here.
  3. Now click on "Material Property" tab of the Cube.
  4. Blender Hangs

Note
If I do this with the System Console Window and debug mode on, I can see that when you click on the "Material Property" Blender is still processing mouse events, but after maybe 10 seconds that hangs too. Perhaps the problem is with the display thread having an infinite loop or similar hanging bug.

Running different versions of the graphics driver had no effect on bug.

2.92.0 was fine and we can still run it on the PC, but 2.93.3 hangs.

Thanks for reporting the issue. Please try again with factory settings: File -> Defaults -> Load Factory Settings
May be some add-ons are interfering (not sure though)

A few similar reports I have seen before. Will try to find them.

Unfortunately Load Factory Settings didn't change anything. Neither did manually disabling all the addons.

But something interesting. I found if you first click on the Render Properties, change the Render Engine to Workbench or Cycles, then click on Material Properties, it works. You can even change the Render Engine back to EEVEE after that and it seems to work.

But if you don't change Render Engine it hangs every time.

@conantheblendarian, any updates on this? Still you are getting those issues after updating GPU driver?
