System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19043-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 457.51

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.0.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-10-22 12:01, hash: ab1909fe06
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Knife Project does not appear to be working.
Screenshot 2021-10-22 191814.jpg
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Create Cube
  • Create Circle
  • Select Circle, then select Cube, then select Edit mode, then select Knife Project
    An Error window appears stating;
'No other selected objects have wire boundary edges to use for projection.'

I tried doing some tutorials in case I was missing something. I had seen it used before, but now it appears broke. I tried using it on my project, got the errors no matter what I did, so I went through YouTube videos to see if I missed something. I then tried it on Cubes and Circles which are what most of the videos use. Non worked. This is Blender 3.0 October 22nd Build.

Perhaps Knife Project technique has changed?

I think you miss one step.

If you want project a circle to a cube use this.

  1. Add cube
  2. Add circle
  3. Go into cube edit mode
  4. Press Ctrl + your cutter object (click the circle object until it had orange outline)
  5. Use knife project function, either search that function or go to Mesh > knife project

Optional:

  • if you want straight cut go to orthograpic view before step 5.
  • if you want use multiple object as cutter just select more object when you in step 4.

Usage of Knife project has changed to work on multi object editing. Please refer the manual for new steps: knife_project.html

Will close the ticket. Thanks for the report!
