Possible UV Unwrap Map Tool Breakdown #95790

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19043-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 457.51

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.2.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2022-02-11 22:58, hash: 35c261dfcf
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Using Basic UV Unwrap, the part often appears to schrapnel, scatter, turn into a mess

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Try taking a Cylinder, add some Subdivide, then try doing a basic UV Unwrap. not UV Pro but basic UV Unwrap.
You might get a schrapnel effect where the UV's appear to be turned 90 deg here and there. Its very odd. The UV Mesh is fine in the texture overlay, but the 'visible' mesh is horrible, failures.

At first I thought it was the parts I was using the other day, and waited to see if the next build would improve, or diff parts would improve, perhaps it was my imagination or a bad part. But it has happened again.

To test this, which is what I did last week, is to run UVW Smart Unwrap, and that worked. But basic Unwrap wouldnt. Usually for me, Pro Unwrap works 'not so good' and Basic Unwrap always works nicely.

If you need my scene file, send me a direct email link. This is a company file and cannot go out.

Kind regards.

Hi, Thanks for the report. I can not reproduce this from scratch with your given steps.

Can you give us .blend file where it actually is broken (and reproduction steps).

So it must just be the model mesh. It must have something in it that is causing this.

Sorry to bother. I thought I found a bug.

I could send a adjusted file with most of the parts deleted and only the parts having issues sent over. Would that help?

As requested. I hope they show up ok. I couldnt remember the first part that had this issue, so I included several. The screenshot shows the newest issue that popped up via this report. A strip that goes around the wing, top and bottom. It appears to have 'shrapnel' where the faces look like a puzzle. This was happening last year on another Beta launch. I forget what it was linked to, but was eventually fixed. I forget what it ended up being related to was.

The Normals shoudl be normal, pardon the pun, but reflections are all over.

Hi, thank you for the file.
I don't see anything wrong in your file. Do I need to perform any steps in order to reproduce the issue?

Hello Pratik,

If it looks fine on your end, then it must be my rig, I can only figure. I download the 3.2 Build daily, so perhaps it was only on one of those Builds.

I havent had any more of these issues in parts (lately) so hopefully its healed up, fixed.
