Bevel vertex weight problem with Solidify modifier in simple mode #96201

Blender Version
Broken: (3.2.0 Alpha from 2022-02-21 23:28)

Short description of error
Solidify doesn't create beveled edge from extruded points in simple mode

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Open file and switch between complex and simple modes inside Solidify modifier -> extruded edges got beveled or not

From scratch:

  • Create a plane
  • Assign full bevel weight for both verts and edges

Add Solidify and Bevel modifiers (weight mode)

The usage of Vertex Bevel Weight for the rim is currently only implemented for complex solidify. The same feature will be missing for Vertex Creases when D14170 lands.

There will probably be a refactor soon (D14077) and that may eventually end up with the same feature for simple solidify. I'm currently defending this feature from being removed by @HooglyBoogly because it mixes vertex and edge domains.

I am leaving this task open (even though it's technically not a bug), as it is an open issue that will hopefully get tackled soon.
