System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19043-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 512.15

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.1.0, branch: master, commit date: 2022-03-08 18:16, hash: c77597cd0e

Short description of error
I have an object with a Mirror and Subdivision modifier. Both modifiers have Edit Mode and Realtime checked, and the Subdivision modifier has On Cage checked.
If I enable X-Ray display, then select this object and toggle to Edit Mode, Blender crashes immediately if I click anywhere on the object.
The crash only occurs if X-Ray display is enabled while in Edit Mode.
The crash also only occurs if both modifiers are flagged to display in Edit Mode and Realtime, and only if the Subdivision modifier is flagged to display On Cage.
The crash does not occur if I disable GPU Subdivision in Preferences.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Delete default cube and add monkey.
  2. Go to numpad 1 front view and select monkey.
  3. Toggle into Edit Mode, then toggle into X-Ray display.
  4. Select all vertices to the left of the YZ-plane and delete them.
  5. Add Mirror modifier with default parameters.
  6. Add Subdivision Surface modifier and check On Cage.
  7. Toggle to Object Mode, then toggle back to Edit Mode.
  8. Click on monkey.

Hi, thanks for the report.
Crash is already fixed on [latest 3.2 build ]] and [ https:*www.blender.org/download/ | 3.1 corrective release - #96344 (GPU subdivision: Crash on select in Edit Mode with X-Ray on and Mirror Modifier)
Please test there and report back if you still get the crash
