Doublicate Geometry nodes Tree in Modifyer tab in object properties does not work as expected #98053

Broken: version: 3.2.0 Alpha / as so in Beta, branch: master, commit date: 2022-03-25 21:17, hash: 1909fd2781

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

If you copie a object with a geometry nodes tree and make a single user instance / Doublicate of the node tree, the content / node tree / Structure does not doublicate too, it only create an empty node tree. Expection might be containing a doublicate of the selected Node Tree.

Hi, thanks for the report. You mean make GN tree single user from modifiers tab is not duplicating the GN tree?

For me, that indeed creates duplicate GN tree for other object.

Yes can repro with this file, the new GN Tree only contains Input and Output.

If I use this, it works fine. Shouldnt The doublicate Button does the same? Out of contenuity to the shaeder tree i would expect that.

Hi, thanks for getting back. This looks expected. Tooltip says it all.
From modifiers tab it creates new geometry node tree: https://docs.blender.org/api/3.3/bpy.ops.node.html#bpy.ops.node.new_geometry_node_group_assign
While from nodes editors it create a copy of existing node tree: https://docs.blender.org/api/3.3/bpy.ops.object.html#bpy.ops.object.geometry_node_tree_copy_assign
