System Information
Operating system:
Graphics card:

Blender Version
Broken: (example: 2.80, edbf15d3c0, master, 2018-11-28, as found on the splash screen)
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
My blender files are lost.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

I opened my blender application like I always do, and I go to my recents. In my recent there are bear1 and realisticbear files that have two projects that I have been working on. They both show up so I click on my Bear1 (the one I have been working on as of late) and nothing opens up. Them when i go back to recents, the files is gone and there is only realistic bear there. So I click on realistic bear and that one also disapears. Then I do file open, and none of my files are to be found. Not even saved on my computer so that i can open it up[ another way. Then i followed videos of auto saves and other things and when I opened it up, there is a log empty of no auto saves. This is realy frustrating because im on a deadline and I cant restart and even if i do restart, will the one i spend the tome on actually be there to open up again.

If you click on a recent file and it doesn't open (usually giving an error like Can not read file), that typically means the file has been deleted or shifted somewhere else. Since the file no longer exists, Blender will remove it from the "recent files" list. Blender, as far as I know, can not delete or shift files without direct user involvement or the use of a malicious add-on. So I do not believe this issue is caused by Blender.

Then i followed videos of auto saves and other things and when I opened it up, there is a log empty of no auto saves.

As for your files not showing up in the "Auto Saves" folder, that might of been because you turned off your computer between the time you last worked on your project and the time you checked your auto-saves. I bring this up as Blender saves it's Auto Saves in the operating system's temporary folder, which most operating systems clear upon turning the computer off.
If you would like auto saves to be stored somewhere other than the operating system's temporary folder so you don't experience this issue in the future, then please follow these steps:

  1. Select from the top of Blender {nav Edit > Preferences}
  2. Navigate to the {nav File Paths} tab in the {nav Preferences} window.
  3. Change the directory the of the {nav Temporary Files} to a folder you would like all auto saves to be stored.
  4. Every once in a while, go to the folder you selected and delete stuff you don't need. Files are automatically saved to that folder, but not deleted which means that over time that folder will continually increase in size.

Personally, I do not believe the issue you're experiencing is the fault of Blender and I'm sorry there is nothing we can do to fix it for you. If you believe this issue is the fault of Blender and you can provide useful information for us to re-create this issue, then please comment below.

There are a many possible reasons for why yours files went missing. For example:

  1. You have a malicious add-on installed in Blender that deleted or shifted your files.
  2. You deleted or shifted the files either on purpose or by accident.
  3. If your files are saved on an external drive or a network drive, it's possible that the location of that drive has changed on your computer since you last opened Blender (For example, the drive might be mounted to K:/, but has been re-mounted at G:/. This would lead to Blender not being able to find the file from the recents menu)
  4. Someone else has used your computer and deleted or moved your files. Or in the case of external storage, someone else has used the storage and deleted or moved your files.
  5. You have some form of anti-virus or an "auto cleaner" tool that has detected your .blend files as a virus or rubbish and deleted them.
  6. Your files were accidentally deleted in an update like a Windows update.
  7. There is some malware installed on your computer that has deleted your files.
  8. The storage device you're using to store your .blend files has stopped working.

However, I have no idea which one is the issue is the right one for you and I don't know how to help you. Sorry.

As unfortunate as the situation is, this appears to be an issue with the system outside of Blender. Since there is not enough information to investigate this further, I will have to close the ticket.
