System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19044-SP0 64 Bits
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz
Graphics card: AMD Radeon (TM) R9 200 Series ATI Technologies Inc. 4.5.13596 Core Profile Context 20.10.35.02 27.20.1034.6
(my GPU is not recognised by blender and therefore does not work for blender)

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.3.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2022-07-01 14:46, hash: d0e3388848
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
when adding a subdivision surface modifier to a primative object, it will remove the object from view port however the object is still there. then looking at the object through the rendered viewport it shows up in its subdivied state.
however, in edit mode, if the modifier is applyed then the object shows up again.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

open blender
add cube (or any primative object)
go to modifier stack and add "subdivision surface" modifier
(at this point the object disapears)
then apply modifier and it shows agian

thanks!

Hi, thanks for the report. This is same issue as stated in #94936 (GPU subdivision option with subdivision surface modifier collapses geometry (AMD GPU))
Upgrade your GPU driver to fix this problem: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/gpu/index.html
You can also fix this by turning off GPU subdivision with current drivers: {nav Edit > Preferences > Viewport > Subdivision > GPU Subdivision}
I'll merge this report in #94936. Feel free to comment if issue still remains
