Summary

A couple of problems:

  • There is this object_image_guess function, which does not work anymore and I don't really know what it should do now.
  • I can't test the output of the exporter because I couldn't find program that can actually load the files.

Does it really make sense to maintain an exporter for a format that is pretty much unusable?

Event Timeline

As far as I can tell this addon isn't even enabled by default? So we don't have to worry about porting this immediately, just the X3D one, though it doesn't harm to commit these changes of course.

@Campbell Barton (campbellbarton) would know if it's worth keeping this at all.

If/when it gets ported, then instead of object_image_guess it can use node_shader_utils like e.g. the OBJ exporter. It just needs to get the diffuse / basecolor texture from there and can ignore most of the other data.
