These two small changes would be awesome. They help explain much better what is actually happening there.

But while poking around in there I would love for you to also think through the bottom section of that same popup.

"Affect" is generally a verb used to mean to influence or produce change. The thing that gets that change has an "effect".

So snapping could affect the "position", "location", "rotation", or "scale" of something. But snapping can't affect "move" or "rotate".

The "effect" would be "movement" or "rotation", or "scaling"

Small name change

  • Move to Movement
  • Rotate to Rotation
  • Scale to Scaling

I don't see problem with this change, I will add the task list.

Move / Rotate / Scale is the name of the tool it affects, I think we should keep those names the same since it's not really correct to say it affects all "movement" for example.

We could keep Move / Rotate /Scale and rename Affect to Affect Tools

My bad. I was thinking about it incorrectly. Bloody amateurs. LOL

We could keep Move / Rotate /Scale and rename Affect to Affect Tool

Something like that would have kept me from making the mistake I did. Like "Affected Tool" or similar.

Should it be Affect Tool or Affect Tools

  • Revert previous change
  • Rename Affect -> Affect Tools
  • Rename Affect Tools -> Affect tools
  • Rename Affect Tools -> Affect tools

That seems quite nice and would have made sense enough for me to have looked at it correctly.

The words work. My earlier suggestion of "Affected tools" is a little funny as we don't typically use "affected" very much, more often heard as a sly insult.

Affected tools is proper english

Affected tools is proper english

You are exactly right. But that particular combination reads a little funny.

"Affected tool" sounds like a person you wouldn't want to hang out with. Because "tool" can be an insult, usually someone with an overly-inflated ego. And "affected" can be pretentious, pompous, etc. So it works together quite well as an insult.

My own favorite is probably "Tools affected". It doesn't sounds clumsy like "Affect tools" and doesn't sounds like an insult.

Tools Affected: Move, Rotate, Scale.

We should probably ask in devtalk to see if the community can come up with something better because they both sound wrong

Let's just leave the affect naming unchanged, I doubt any of the different names help much.

Agree with Brecht.
This title is not confusing. Also not only tools affected, but G/R/S with keys. So let it be as it is.

Using Rotation and scale snapping is very tricky, so I don`t think that new users touch em much.

  • Affect tools -> Affects

Snap To & Snap With really does help users understand what is what in my opinion. This seems like a small but good change.
