Summary

Turns out current behavior [no zoom, just pan] is an intentional change,
see rB4005b88b30cf.

So this is just a suggestion, taking the biggest node in the tree into
account which will avoid constant zoomlevel change on different single
nodes (looking like panning then), but still getting you closer if
starting zoomed out far...

The rationale for the current behavior is:

It doesn't make sense to zoom in on single items because they're often small enough that making them fill the screen isn't all that useful.

The same logic applies to vertices in an ortho 3D view-port. Zooming in on a single item just isn't that useful so in the case of a single vertex is centers.


This patch seems close enough to reverting rB4005b88b30cf: minor edits to node view - when single (non frame) node selected, dont zoom in… that I'd rather see which behavior users prefer.

Maybe check with artists in the studio if they find zooming in preferable?
