Summary

If this doesnt work in a particular mode, it would be better to indicate
that in the Overlay popup.

also take GPencil into account (all modes there are unsupported)

This is fine for me if the overlay doesn't work for a certain mode on purpose, but if it's just an oversight I would rather that be fixed than accounted for in the UI.
So we may want to wait to see from @Pablo Dobarro (pablodp606) which modes were an oversight and which were purposeful.

My idea with the naming "Face inactive geometry" was to clarify that it will only affect geometry object (meshes, curves...), so Grease Pencil objects or armatures won't be affected. If you prefer to also hide the property from the UI that is also ok.
