Graphics card: Quadro RTX 4000/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 472.84

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.2.1, branch: master, commit date: 2022-07-05 15:44, hash: a2d59b2dac

Short description of error
The Blur node is forming black squares for certain frames in my render composite.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Render Frame 70 of my animation. (attached blender file)

  • A GlossDir pass is fed to the Blur node.

  • The Blur node forms blacks squares.

[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

I found a similar report here which claims that it has been solved. https://developer.blender.org/T51566

I can't reproduce the issue myself, but that is probably due to a difference in rendering, possibly because I am rendering on the CPU.
If the issue can be reproduced on an OpenEXR image of the render, can you attach the image here?
Can you sample the color at those black pixels and write their values here? Are they NaNs?

GlossDir Blur 10%.exr
I have rendered on the gpu, the render comes out correct, only after the the composite is added that that the black square appears. The black spot appears after adding blur to the GlossDir pass.

I am guessing it is a NaN.

I was hoping to get the original MultiLayer EXR render without compositing.

There is a NaN pixel in the original image, located at (710, 911), so the Blur node just propagates the NaN further into a bigger square.
So the source of the issue here is Cycles generating a NaN pixel, not the compositor.

Can you create a new report about Cycles generating this NaN pixel? I will archive this report and we can continue triaging in the one you create.
