Short description of error
Hi!!
Torus is translated as "Rosca" but this is a colloquial term, the right term is "Toroide", technically speaking "Rosca" is the profile of the screw shape.

Hi @Confabulatori

Well, I'm translating "Torus" here, a special kind or toroid.
If the original string would have been Toroid, I'd have translated it as Toroide.
But for Torus, there are two possible Spanish words: Toro and Rosca, as indicated in your third image:
imagen.png
...and in the page where the link in the first line leads to:
imagen.png

Being faced with that two options, I found that both of the alternatives presented some possible confusions:

  • Toro, is also the most common word for "bull". So perhaps, as there's also an object primitive that's labeled Monkey (and creates a monkey), some users would be misled to believe that they can also create a bull primitive too.
  • Rosca, is a word commonly used for donuts and the like, and also for the thread of a screw. In the context of creating a new primitive the donut meaning is not a problem because it's exactly what is created, whereas the "thread of a screw" meaning could lead to a possible confusion if the user thinks they would be creating just that.

Finally, I know "Rosca" is more of a colloquial term, not a technical one, and I must admit I tend to favor colloquial when there are various usable alternatives, in an attempt to lower Blender learning curve.

That said, if there were a vast majority of people wanting to use "Toroide" as the translation for that word, I'd have no problem changing it, as it also seems a correct word to me.

Note: I really think the original string would better be Toroid, and not Torus, for more accuracy. As the settings of that primitive allow you to create not only revolved objects of circular section (a Torus), but of other type of sections too (that being a Toroid and not a Torus).

Blender is also for professionals or people who want to be one, is used in many industry areas by experts, I think colloquial terms diminish the perception, and there are already a terminology in use, technical concepts, not created by Blender but by scientist and profesors beforehand, there is nothing to invent or change.
The new user needs to elevate its knowledge and improve.
Other wise all should be changed not only some parts. All colloquial or all technical, but not a chimera.
All the advenced users in my group prefer to use Blender in English (myself included until a pair of days ago), I think is kind a disrispect to use other terminology for the Spanish speakers like if their where not able to learn or understand, are we so fool we can't learn the name of a geometric shape? I know this is not the case, you are not sayin such thing but, why not to help the user to learn something new instead of let them be ingnorant of the tecnical words?

If we move this out of the triaging queue (by changing status label to Needs Information from Developers), this needs to be the responsibility of a module (so a Module label must be added)

I'd go for Toroide.

When I read Rosca I imagine the thread of a screw, or a type of pastry. Toroide on the other hand is unequivocally just the shape.

I've taken a look at how Cinema 4D Spanish UI named it and it's "Toroide", so let's go with it. Industry standardization is a good thing.

I just changed it, both in the UI and Manual.
