%%%Only the first added metaball appears on the render when using a volume material on the first added one.
All others meta object are just missing from the render.

How to reproduce?

  1. Add a meta-object (e.g. a metaball);
  2. Set a volume material to this metaball;
  3. Still in object mode, duplicate the metaball (^D) and move it a little;
  4. Render the scene.

What actually happen?
You see the first added metaball, but not the duplicated one.

What was expected?
See both the original and copied metaballs on the render.

An example file usable for this issue too can be found on #20023

%%%Confirmed, attached an example .blend file.%%%

%%%Cause here seems to be special code to use metaball density in volume rendering. It takes into account all metaball elements inside the same object, but not other objects which may also be joined into the metaball.%%%

%%%The code works as it was designed to, so this is not a really a bug but a deeper design issue. You can get the two metaballs to show up in the renderer by changing the other one's name and thus setting it into a separate group, but this doesn't give you the desired result of blended metaballs.

Putting this up on the todo-list and closing for now.%%%
