UV-editor - Problem with image-repeat #30648

%%%When I try to set up a UV-texture I regularly run into this problem. Let's say I want to have a wall of tiles.

  • create a simple plane, enter edit-mode and open the UV-editor in another area.
  • unwrap/project from view, and open up the image of a single tile.

So far so good, but now I try to set up the UV-map of the plane to include exactly seven tiles in width and five in height. So I

  • press "t" and turn on "repeat" in the image-options
  • zoom out a bit to see a lot more tiles

Result:

  • Half the tiles disappear (see screenshot)
  • exactly placing the UV-map is not possible, unless I zoom in a great deal
  • the amount/position of the tiles varies when panning/zooming

This is reproducable reliably when zooming out in the uv-editor far enough. I have found the same behaviour from 2.57(64-bit) up to the official release of 2.62(64-bit). Changing the drwing-mode from "automatic" to "full" and updating the graphics-driver hasn't helped. Still I think it's drawing/OpenGL-related.

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
PC: Intel Xeon 5670/12GB
Graphics: ATI RadeonHD 5800%%%

%%%I can confirm the issue with drawing repeated image will look into this.%%%

%%%this is an intentional / crappy workaround for slow display - since the tiles drawing is not optimal (draws whole bitmap every time, currently its only drawing as manu images as it can in some limited timeframe)%%%

%%%Indeed it's just time-based limit to deal with large buffers and slow video cards. Need to e fully redesigned.
Added a node to our wiki http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Editors#Image_Editor and not actually consider this is a bug.%%%

%%%I see. Is there anything I can do to get a better result/more repetition-images to show?%%%
