Selection of bones in armature edit mode only toggles between two bones

Description

I appended a simple example file. If you open it you will find an armature in edit mode that contains the bones A, B and C. All three bones are on top of each other (overlapping). If i try to select the bone C by pressing multiple times the right mouse button, then I'm not able to do it. It only cycles in between A -> B -> A -> B ->...

This only happens in edit mode of armatures. If you go to pose mode then you will toggle between all three (or even more) bones (A -> B -> C -> ...). The same works for objects in object mode or even vertices in mesh edit mode.
