Windows 7 Prof. 64 Bit

Intel Core i5 2410M CPU 2.3 GHz
RAM 8 GB
Grafik: AMD Radeon HD 6630M

- Blender version with error, and version that worked ---

blender 2.66a official build

- Short description of error ---

gui is alway a step behind the user
if i click a menu i have to do another keystroke to really open the menu
same for all other user inputs

workarounds:

  • if i enable screencast in blender the error is gone
  • also if i switch graphics to 16 bit its gone

what i tryed:

  • newest graphics driver is installed
  • window draw methods doesnt help
  • turning of windows aero design doesnt help

%%%This is definitely opengl issue. Seems your computer supports both integrated and discrete cards? In this case try forcing blender to run on AMD one. Also, make sure you're using drivers from intel/AMD directly, DO NOT rely on newest drivers from your laptop vendor -- they could easily be out-of-date or patched in a way they don't work.%%%

%%%this bug is live on every system I have worked, even with strong geforce cards
and it is very annoying... but the strangest thing why most of the people are happy with it? strange...
there was the "lazy keyboard" bug and it lives for 2-3 versions of Blender, and only me and an other guy noticed it

really I dont understad the Blender users...%%%

%%%This is something to do with particular setup you've got, or particular configuration. There could be some third party software running on your systems which interferes with blender, or it could be some addon which you've got enabled..

Please try:

  • Loading factory settings and see if issue still happens
  • Try closing all applications running in the background, they could affect on opengl as well.
  • Download opengl32.dll from http://download.blender.org/ftp/incoming/softwaregl/ and put it to the same folder as blender.exe. This will switch blender to fully software opengl mode, avoiding possible issues with driver/configuration.

Do you have some non-standard settings in your windows? (comparing to default installation -- things which affects on mouse/keyboard interaction).

P.S. Comparing with Blender 2.49 is not fair tho, interaction with opengl changed a lot, and lots of newer opengl features are used comparing current blender with 2.4x series.%%%

%%%Endi and Tobias: this is really exceptional. Of course "most users" can't live with that. There's enough Windows developers who do Blender work to keep track of such errors.

What we need is you guys carefully investigating what the cause is. There is something in your Windows system configuration doing it.

%%%I have seen this behavior on a Windows 8 machine with an NVidia card. I don't have regular access to it, but I can find out more info on Thursday evening, when I'm in that game lab again.

I shall try the instructions from Sergey too, but I can already say that using factory settings didn't change anything.

The special situation of this machine is that it is currently being used for some commercial project too, and the user active in it is always logged in. I cannot log that user out, so not able to really close all running processes. From what I've seen in the process list at least Modo is running for that user.

More info at the end of this week.%%%

%%%I had same issue on Windows 8 with NVIDIA card and GeForce-drivers: 313.96 (BETA, 29.1.2013) and 314.07 (WHQL, 18.2.2013). 314.07 rechecked right now - problem still there.
With the latest drivers: 314.22 (WHQL, 25.3.2013) and 320.00 (BETA, 23.4.2013) this problem is gone.%%%

%%%Yes, I remember (heard from other people) bugs with nVidia drivers prior tp 314.*
So please make sure to use this one at least.

As for Windows 7, Geforce 540M, no lags or problems here.

I'd just move this to the OpenGL tracker. %%%

%%%Afaik - using opengl32.dll means software opengl, this is a test to see if Blender works fine.

We really need people here to keep digging, until there's a clue what in your system causes the issue...%%%

%%%Attaching the output of Help > System Info in Blender might give some clues. And please try the latest AMD drivers from their website if you haven't already, you didn't mention if you did this?%%%

%%%I think closing is premature, as there is at least one NVidia machine where this happens - when last time checked it had the latest drivers. And remember, tonight I have again access to the machine. Only then I can verify driver version etc.%%%
