%%%What's described in that thread is that if you link an object, delete it, and then append that same object, the object data will still be linked. That can be confusing but it's an intentional feature and has been this way for a long time, it's not new in 2.68 as the thread title suggests.

The purpose of that is to avoid duplicating datablocks that are already in the file, that's actually quite useful even though the UI does not communicate it. You can always Make Local (L key), or close and reopen the file. We could definitely do better here but that would be more a topic to improve the appending/linking system than a bugfix.

If there is another cases where it links where you wanted it to append, please give exact steps to redo the problem.%%%
