Strange boolean modifier result #36357

The attached file contains a cube (with some extra stuff on one side) and a skewed cylinder that yield some odd shapes when you try to apply a boolean modifier (union) to them. Neither mesh contains any incorrect face normals, non manifold vertexes, duplicate vertexes or additional modifiers.

There were several similar bugs reported last year, but none of the fixes/work-arounds seem to work in this case. I have tried rotating the meshes, flipping the normals and other random adjustments to the meshes, but nothing works and still resembles the desired shape.

The console output shows these warnings & errors:

i also moved all objects to layer 1 and modes the cylinder a bit around...

We might trying being smarter and do better triangulation, but it'll make boolean even slower. Real solution for the issue is to support ngons in boolean modifier, which is already in our TODO list.
