Short description of error
The Correct Aspect option for UV unwrapping with project from view has no effect when the render engine is set to cycles.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on UV_aspect.blend

  1. Unwrap the cube with Project From View
  2. Try changing the Correct Aspect option in the F6 menu or the Redo Menu
  3. Nothing happens

Correct aspect for Cycles uses material's image, not face texture (because Cycles doesn't have face textures).

In your cae cube doesn't have any materials. If you'll create new material for cube and use 100.png as Image Texture for it aspect correction will go fine for you.

Brecht, do you think we can improve interface here to show what's going on? Maybe somehow tweak the tooltip..

I'm not sure what to change in the tooltip. The image it corrects for is the one you see in textured draw mode, which seems logical. It's just that you are expecting the image in the image editor to actually be involved somehow while it isn't. This is partially because it's just different from Blender Internal but people are used to it working the same way, and partially because we need to do a better job in general with Cycles to make this workflow clear, but that's a bigger issue than this bug.
