Description of error
The analysis display modes for Sequencer (Waveform, Vectorscope and Histogram) are rendered according to the Scene resolution and aspect ratio, which make some of them imprecise and hard to handle in some situations.

By pressing Numpad "1" key, instead of showing the 1 pixel magnification (1:1, as it's said on View menu), the analysis displays are scaled to scene resolution, making them imprecise and hard to see. The user can't see the actual resolution for these analyses tools, which prejudices its correct evaluation.

They keep the scene aspect ratio, witch is a problem also. For instance, when working with 2:1 aspect ratio scene, the Vectorscope retain the 2:1 aspect, making it very hard to identify the real angles, what is very important to do Color Correction.

The Waveform seems not to be correct in its resolution (particularly in height), but I would not change it. Beside it, it still have problems in zoom out, due to aliasing issues, where depending on zoom out amount, some guideline disappears, witch also affect Histogram banding perception over the image.

In the image below:

  • Various values of zoom in waveform showing different patterns of guidelines.
  • Huge sized Histogram at 1:1 zoom (unnecessarily scaled to 1280x720).
  • Bad aspect ratio to work with Vectorscope.

Ideally, the displayed resolution for these modes should be:

  • Waveform: retain scene final dimensions and aspect ratio (as it's currently already).
  • Vectorscope: retain scene width, 256px height. The aspect ratio should be flexible (changeable by primary click and grab maybe), returning to its natural aspect ratio when pressing Numpad "1".
  • Histogram: natural resolution of a 256px square, with flexible aspect ratio (like Vectorscope) and maybe the suggested display aspect ratio of 2:1

The best solution I can think to solve this bug should be unify and update these displays to use the same Vectorcope, Waveform and Histogram displayed in the UV/Image Editor. They are very smooth, accurate and configurable. It may to bring some speed issues, witch I doubt, but can't make sure anyway.

I'd like to see it to happen:

I can't edit the Task, then I'm correcting here the ideally dimension for Vectorscope:

  • Vectorscope: fixed square aspect ratio with the maximum resolution that the scene allows (as it is on UV/Image Editor).

Made it so meters are displayed without any additional distortion applied on them (meaning, display the same exact scope buffer which was calculated internally).

More tweaks are possible, but they'd be considered a TODO and moved there: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Editors#Video_Sequencer
