COLLADA export issue from 2.69 (BUT NOT 2.67): object in OpenGL viewer are in wrong orientation #38613

System Information
Operating system and graphics card
Mac Book Pro 10.6.8 or iMac 10.7.5 (AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB for the iMac)

Blender Version
Broken: 2.69.0 r60991
Worked: (optional) 2.67.0 r57213M

Short description of error

Export in COLLADA format from 2.69 makes a .dae file in which some objects are in the wrong orientation in the OpenGL viewer GLC-player (http://www.glc-player.net). In the attached blender file, the small wood brick is in wrong orientation in the .dae file compared to the .blend file.
This seems to be :

  • specific to the 2.69 version as the 2.67 version makes .dae files that are fine in GLC-player
  • to a certain point specific to GLC-player as Google Sketchup or the Mac Preview don't show this problem when viewing the same .dae file
  • this happens only when animations are made (even if the animation does'nt concern the wrongly orientated objects like in the attached blender file)
  • if I hit the "Snowflakes" icon in the NLA Editor for all animated objects, then the .dae file is fine in GLC-player even from 2.69

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
See attached file. After selecting all objects, I used Export-->Collada then

  • check Apply Modifiers+SelectedOnly
  • uncheck Include Shape Keys
  • inlcude UV tetxures
  • check Sort by Object names{F77051}

Some Snapshots to illustrate the problem. The small wood brick is in wrong orientation in GLC-player compared to Blender. When Snowflakes are off then everything is fine in GLC-player

By the way, it is probably easier to look at the 2 DAE files (attached here):

So why is the small brick ("wooden brick.001") mis-orientated in the DAE 2.69 file compared to the DAE 2.67 file ??

I am not used to read inside COLLADA files...

By the way, it is probably easier to look at the 2 DAE files (attached here): - one exported from 2.67 which is OK: [Cube_plane_2bricks_wall_from_Blender2-67.dae](https://archive.blender.org/developer/F77242/Cube_plane_2bricks_wall_from_Blender2-67.dae) - one exported from 2.69 which is wrong: [Cube_plane_2bricks_wall_from_Blender2-69.dae](https://archive.blender.org/developer/F77243/Cube_plane_2bricks_wall_from_Blender2-69.dae) both correspond to the pictures in my previous comment. Hi again,
An interesting observation that could help.
In the blender file in mys first message, the scale of the brick is set to X= - 0.5. When set to + 0.5, the brick doesn't change in blender and the .dae file exported from both 2.67 and 2.69 is OK in GLC-player. So it looks like 2.69 is more sensitive to that negative scaling.
However, I have files where scaling seems to be ok (X,Y,Z are +) but the export is still showing the orientation/rotation issue with the brick and with both versions of Blender...

Hope this helps.

We are sorry, but we currently have no maintainer for Collada area, and there is no point in keeping opened reports that no one will tackle any time soon.

We only intend to maintain basic support for SecondLife export, but it is very unlikely to get any more real work done here (even the OpenCollada library we use in Blender is a rather… quite project since some time now).
