Number-buttons have suboptimal and confusing sensitive areas
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

System Information ALL
Operating system and graphics card ALL

Blender Version
Broken: trunk
Worked: 2.6.9 with old alignment

Since the number button properties got the new alignment scheme having the label most left and the value most right, it
is confusing to the user to know where to click to change the value by keyboardinput.

  • to trigger inputfield one has to click now in the ( empty ) middle area ( clicking on value would be appropiate )
  • stepping the value (+/-) with arrows also happens on the area, where the label or value is.

-the gap between arrows and label/value is too small

As is:

I concur. This is really annoying.

@jens verwiebe (jensverwiebe) - think this touches on a similar issue to T38070

Even though the task isnt exactly a duplicate, IMHO if we implement T38070, this task will be resolved too.

Also, to be clear, blender has sliders and number buttons. (names used internally at least).

Campbell Barton (campbellbarton) renamed this task from Sliders have suboptimal and confusing sensitive areas to Number-buttons have suboptimal and confusing sensitive areas.

Regardless if it shows the arrows only on mouse over, the main question to me is if it is acceptable to make those arrow areas smaller. If they are bigger they overlap the number text which is confusing, if they are smaller they are more difficult / slower to hit..

To me it seems reasonable to have them smaller, if we are going to have the number aligned on the right there really seems to be no good alternative to me, but maybe others disagree.

Brecht Van Lommel (brecht) triaged this task as Normal priority.
