Closing the console, closes Blender #38947

[Windows]

When you close the console, you close Blender. Why isn't it that only the console closes? That would be so much easier and would make so much more sense. I know I can close the console with Window > Toggle System Console, but closing it with the - [x] is just a habit and common sense.

I think this could be done

We could use SetConsoleCtrlHandler to register a handler for the close event and hide the windows instead of letting it be closed.

I am not sure if this as a bug or a feature request.

Or it would be an idea to make blender aks if you want to save your changes when this might occur.

This wouldn't be much of a problem if what rykounanba says was there. Make Blender ask if you want to save before closing.

What happens on Linux or MacOS, when you close the console?
Is the behaviour consistent on all OSes?
If so, it's a feature request otherwise I would consider it a bug...

On linux it also closes blender, but It would make more sense. When you start applications from a terminal and you close the terminal you close the running process , wich would be blender.

This is not a bug, period.

Just adding an opinion here.

Closing the console does kill Blender.

It may not be a bug, per se, but it can really screw up your day because it does not do a prompt quit.

I've lost my work this way more than once. ( sigh! )
