Short description of error
When creating a smart UV using defaults, the UV mesh is fragmented unreasonably. This occurs only in the 2.70 RC as earlier versions of Blender seem fine. See atached image. The upper image is 2.70 and lower image is 2.68a.
This may simply be an issue with the RC but I thought it worth reporting.

As i could reproduce the same problem with a dyntopo dense mesh , i'm adding more informations :

In Blender 2.69 "stable" , the uv smart has no problem unwrapping everything with my dense mesh.

In Blender 2.70rc , the smart uv fail to unwrap a lot of its faces and those failures are then all merged into a single point in the uv map, on the bottom left (same as you can seeon shamusboy screenshot), it's very bad.

@Campbell Barton (campbellbarton) this is apparently caused by rBe781ea79. By reverting this change I don't the error explained above.
