Crash when using Bevel tool (Ctrl+b) #39477

This is my first report, I apologize in advance for any mistakes I might make.

System Information
Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise 6.1.7601
NVidia GeForce GT 640, driver v. 9.18.13.2049
I generated system-info.txt, if should be in the bugged .blend file.

Blender Version
Broken: 2.68.0 r58537

Short description of error
A reproducible, instant crash-to-desktop happens whenever I use the Bevel (ctrl+b) tool on specific geometry, and increase the number of segments to 4.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Blend file with the bug
bug_report_CTD_Beveltool_Win.blend

  1. Select the 'Bugged_Object' and go to Edit Mode
  2. Select the three edges of the inner corner
  3. Use the Bevel tool (Ctrl+b)
  4. Increase the number of segments to 4 (mouse scroll wheel up)
  5. Instant crash

Steps 1 and 2 (selecting the correct edges) should already have been done in the file, so Ctrl+b and mouse-wheel up should be enough to replicate the bug.

The edges are marked sharp for clarity, they don't seem to affect the crash.

I tried reproducing this with various objects with similar geometry, but I didn't figure out the exact cause.

Please try to be a bit serious, 2.68 is more than six months old, we just released 2.70 two weeks ago, and there has been a bunch of work on bevel tool in the mean while!!!

Btw, can’t reproduce your crash with current master, nor in 2.70, nor in 2.69…

As I said, this was my first time reporting a bug. I didn't and won't have access to newer versions of Blender at this computer. I tried looking at the previous Bevel-related bug reports and fixes, but I don't understand them, and I didn't know how to check if and when Bevel has been changed.

Sorry about wasting your time, but I was as serious as I could.
