Blender Version
2.7

This is not a bug report. nor it is a feature request, although it might be considered as such, depending on which angle you look at it.

I'm writing this over my frustration with the confusion/design-flaw you've created in the effort of trying to revamp the user-interface experience of Blender users.

I've seen that Blender 2.7 comes with the "Quad-View" by default. One can maximize a given view by tapping the space bar while hovering over it, which is great. But, when it comes to wanting to set an independent display type in one of those viewports in the quad-view, any changes set in the editor bar applies to all the viewports. Why? Because the so-called "Quad-View" is not really what it should be, it is not comprised of different orthographic viewports with their own independent adjustable view settings, but it is in fact a single viewport divided into four views.

Can you see the design flaw here? Why should the user have to subdivide a single viewport to separate viewports just to be able to get independent display types per viewport? What if I want just one tool shelf and a quad view with independent display styles? How do I render in just one viewport in Quad-view???

If your aim is to revamp Blender's user interface experience, you should look into not creating an inflation of possibilities, but to aim to simplify and fictionalize in that simplification.

If you have decided that The Quad-View is the way to go, then please invest some time to see to how the users can make the most out of it. Please choose one and do away with the confusion.

Thanx;

AJ

Quad View is not a default, nor has it been a default ever.

Thanks for the feedback, but this is not a bug so not the right place to post it. You can post proposals to improve the UI in the wiki or mail bf-funboard, see here for the process.

Note that quad view has existed and worked this way for more than 4 years, it's not new in Blender 2.70. Certainly it can be improved, but is a matter of a developer volunteering time to work on it.
