We've got a bug report template for a reason. Please follow the guideline and provide operation system you're using, computer spec and exact version of blender you're using.
Meanwhile poking @dfelinto if he have
OS - Linux 64bit, nVidia GTX 560
Blender - 1 week ago build (hash -
b64bdb2
).Is it own build or build from buildbot.
It was meant to be a question :)
Yes it was buildbot :)
Just a nightly build.
Actually seems to be some sort of bug in OIIO upstream. I remember Dalai had some issues with the alpha in the past and had some workaround.
The bug I patched was incorporated to OpenImageIO 1.2.3
@Sergey do you know which OIIO we are using for Linux?
@dfelinto, that's 1.3.9. And as i've mentioned above, current upstream also does have the issue. Try building latest OIIO git and open the image in
iv
. You'll see the same exact issue.ok, just opened the file here in Photoshop and saved it with "Maximum Compatibility" and everything works.
Where did you generate this PSD file?
i created this file in Krita.
Gimp, and Gwenview open this file without any issues.
Here is Gwenview for example http://i.imgur.com/tY7AcOk.png

This is an upstream problem and known issue. Unfortunately Blender currently only fully supports Photoshop files with Maximum compatibility.
Krita is extending their OpenEXR functionality, so in the future it may work better for you:

This is simple 8bit image. There is nothing special. Only some layers. All other apps show this PSD file ok. Only blender shows it buggy.
I wish you could investigate the problem in blender.
I also can say about 10 painting apps which generate psd files (sai, painter, gimp etc). I guess many people use them. So you should not stick only on Photoshop even if PSD its native format.
Alright two questions:
(1) does leaf_02.psd open fine in krita?
(2) if you save this 8-bit image from krita with no alpha, does it look fine in Blender?
leaf_02 opens in krita without issues http://i.imgur.com/Fbfffs8.png
Without alpha psd looks fully ok! http://i.imgur.com/C3Ryp0W.png
I just added blue background.
Also semi-transparent background looks like this http://i.imgur.com/4LzDJfm.png
Thanks, two more requests to help figure out if the problem is in oiio or krita:
grid.png - F84448
grid.psd - F84449
Hi.
It seems krita has a bug for a single layer. If i flattern image - there will be no alpha. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333300
And blender will not open flattened psd. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26887202/blender/leaf_01_flatten.psd
Ok, i saved all grid files in krita https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26887202/blender/grid_krita.zip
But grid_krita_flattern and grid_krita_png are buggy because of the bug i mentioned(single layer).
just reported the main issue upstream (Krita) - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333322
It's definitively not a Blender (or OIIO) issue.
For the records:
grid-krita.psd -
grid-native.psd -
Ray data comparison
https://developer.blender.org/P36
Oo! Cool that you found the issue! Thanks a lot!
I hope Krita guys will fix it. As Gooseberry guys can use krita too...
But it's strange that other apps open krita's PSD ok.
That's not entirely true. Apps that rely on the individual layers, yes, but anything that relies in the composed image will not. You can see in your OS, look at the thumbnail preview of both grid-krita.psd and grid-native.psd. In OSX the difference is visible.
