Texture is not refreshed in Deform

W7 64b, Quadro 4000

Blender Version
6e9c2d0

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. create some object with Deform modifier and apply texture
  2. use same texture as diffuse for preview
  3. change texture
  4. reload texture in UV editor
  5. texture in diffuse is changed, but texture in Displace deform stay old

it is refreshed when I change texture in Displace setting under Texture tab or scene reload.

Cannot confirm that here, seems to work OK for me. Please attach a blend file.

I can reproduce it everytime I also deleted my preferences. Maybe there is problem with PSD.

I remember having this issue before when working with displacement modifier textures. Think it's basically a depsgraph issue: Changing a texture should tag all objects using it via modifiers, but that's yet another special case that would have to be handled to work around depsgraph limitations (depsgraph is rather useless for this sort of thing in its current state).

It's indeed a depsgraph limitation and instead of trying to hack things up now would rather prefer spending time on finishing new depsgraph. For now marking it as a TODO here http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Animation#Dependency_Graph
