Objects selected when checkbox/button/tab clicked with "Region Overlap" enabled (in certain key configurations) #40649

System Information
Windows 8

Blender Version
Broken: Latest 2.71 RC1, but older versions as well

Short description of error
I have the "Region Overlap" enabled, and I noticed with my key configuration, when I click a checkbox in the properties shelf, object "under" the checkbox in 3D View is selected. Here's an example:
SelectBehindShelfBug.gif
I did more testing, and it turns out this happens for most all checkboxes and buttons, and even the new tabs.
I found I could replicate this problem with the 3Dsmax key configuration.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Enable "Region Overlap".
  2. Change to select with LMB.
  3. Change key configuration to 3Dsmax.
  4. Click a checkbox/button/tab "over" an object.
And in case it's helpful, I'm attaching my key configuration: KJ_BlenderCustomKeys_06.08.2014.py

IMHO handling events under the overlapping window at all is a mistake with region overlap.

I would just disable this, its too error prone.

@ideasman42, that would kind of eliminate half of benefit of region overlap. But if the UI mafia is fine with this let's disable it..

P.S. I can't actually reproduce the issue..

I cannot reproduce it under Linux. Isn't it possible that window8 sends some fake/redundant buttonpress events here?

It seems I cannot use the LMB on the area under the overlap at all, only RMB. ...err, one exception: if I click on a disabled button, it goes through.

I've committed tweaks to the 3ds keymap, so it should no longer be an issue with it. Unfortunately it's still possible custom keymap will fail in such situation. But wouldn't consider this a bug, rather the part of the mouse click revisit project -- we've got quite a few of issues with how and when we consider events to be passed/handled etc.

Moving to the TODO - http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Editors#3D_View

Thanks for the report anyway!

The problem does seem to have been fixed for the 3ds keymap, but, sadly, the problem still remains with my custom keymap.

Looking forward to seeing this resolved in the future as it's quite annoying. Thanks for all the hard work!
