objects with noncube mesh bounce when set to cube collision bounds and character physics mode when rotated.

Rotate a negative amount on x axis
Start game engine

This is also happening with collision bounds of type cylinder, cone and convex hull. With triangle mesh, the cube falls trough the floor and is acting jerky in Rigid Body type.

Usually character controllers use shapes like sphere and capsules. Maybe there is a problem when doing a convex cast with other shapes? I'm just guessing though.

it's a Bullet issue with Box/Cylinder/Sphere/Capsule shapes : the center is the exact center of the shape, we can't do anything.
@JosephMasaki : you must move the center of the mesh, Ctrl + Shift + Alt + C can help.
